Winter School for Future Professionals: Exploring MedTech and ESG Innovation through Fieldwork

During the four-day, three-night (12-15 February 2026) "Winter School for Future Professionals", students visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and several leading innovation hubs for on-site exploration.

Fieldwork: Witnessing Scientific Theory Turn into Reality

By engaging directly with projects such as micro-medical robots, 3D printing, and smart recycling systems, students observed how biomedical and ESG theories are applied to real-world technology to address social challenges. This experience helped participants understand that the value of innovation lies not just in the technology itself, but in its practical contribution to society.

Mentor Sharing: Mastering Key Communication for the Workplace

In addition to technical exploration, the programme invited industry speakers and experienced mentors to share career insights. Students learned how to transform an idea into actual impact, focussing on two key principles:

  • Asking the Right Questions: Gaining accurate insights into core needs.

  • Selling "Impact" rather than Features: Practising the art of expressing key points concisely. This shift in mindset is a vital step for students transitioning from the classroom to the professional world.

Practical Workshops: Laying the Foundation for Professional Development

Throughout the programme, students built confidence and practical skills through diverse sessions:

  • Cross-School Collaboration: Learning to solve problems with teammates from different backgrounds.

  • Mock Interviews and Professional CV Photoshoot: Equipping students early with university and career advancement skills while building a professional personal image.

The Winter School provided students with valuable opportunities to connect with the industry and build networks, helping them transform academic knowledge into practical execution and laying a solid foundation for their future professional development.
