English News Anchors Summer School 2026
This summer school takes students behind the scenes of English news production – from topic selection, interviewing, and scriptwriting to on camera news anchoring. Participants will gradually master the news production process. They will improve their English pronunciation, intonation, and on camera delivery skills. They will also learn how to respond spontaneously in live settings while gaining basic video production knowledge. The programme includes exchanges with working media professionals to help students understand the industry as well. Ultimately, students will work in groups to present an English news broadcast, putting what they have learned into practice.
Instructors
The programme is taught by experienced media professionals. The instructor team includes news editors, TV news anchors, and reporters. A visit to a TV studio will be arranged, giving students hands on experience of a professional news production environment.
Nearly 40 secondary students from Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland took part in a 4‑day, 3‑night residential programme at The HKFYG Leadership Institute. Guided by experienced journalists and guest speakers, participants gained hands‑on experience in English news production and anchoring techniques.
Key Highlights of the Programme:
- Professional Studio Training: Generously supported by the Department of Journalism, School of Communication, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), participants trained in a professional broadcast studio on campus, exploring filming, editing, and live production equipment — giving them a close‑up look at the latest developments in both new and traditional media.
- Industry Insights: Senior reporters and news directors from SCMP and RTHK shared practical expertise on interviewing techniques and investigative reporting, supported seamlessly by our M21 team.
- Live Newscast Showcase: For their final project, each group produced and delivered a live 3-minute English news report. Participants demonstrated remarkable confidence, broadcast clarity, and sharp media literacy under pressure!
We were honoured to have Professor Raymond Li, Head of the Department of Journalism at HKBU, as our guest judge. His professional feedback and encouragement added great value to the students' learning experience.
